Jantzen Beach Carousel was a beloved carousel built by the famous C.W.Parker. These images (1 of 6) were done as part of a fundraiser for Restore Oregon; the sale of the originals going to the cause, and were somewhat fictitiously created from several images as the actual horses are unavailable as models. Prints are created from original artwork. Larger prints are printed on archival acid free “German Etching” watercolor paper using archival inks; smaller prints are printed on Epson Ultra Premium Luster Paper using Epson Claria High-Definition Inks. Prints include 1/2" to 1” borders. Please note that colors will vary slightly due to calibration differences in monitors.

C.W. Parker built his first Carousel in 1896. Although built in Abilene, Kansas, it spent its first years on the Venice Beach Pier, from 1921 to 1928, when it was relocated to North Portland’s Hayden Island with the opening of Jantzen Beach Amusement Park in 1928. The Carousel was listed, then dropped from the National Register of Historic Places. For years it was in the Jantzen Beach shopping center, but was dismantled and put into storage by the current owner/developer. They promised to care for it and eventually put it out for use again. Preservation groups are desperately trying to revive the carousel, or buy the carousel from the developers, to be placed as a working carousel again, and relisted on the Register.
